The sad news of the untimely passing of former AGBU Central Board member M. Michael Ansour at age 70 marks a time to reflect on the life of a dedicated servant of the Armenian community.
Ansour's tenure on the AGBU Central Board lasted 22 years from 1994 to 2016. He also served on the AGBU Investment Committee, sharing his financial expertise and insight to advance the organization’s growth and expansion.
His connection to AGBU began with his family’s active involvement in the organization in his native Egypt and continued throughout his lifetime. After attending the AGBU Hovagimian-Manougian School in Lebanon, he pursued higher education in the United States, earning both an undergraduate and doctorate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with the support of an AGBU scholarship. These formative educational experiences compelled him to give back, leading to the establishment of the AGBU Nazeni and Kevork Deukmejian Endowment, in memory of his maternal grandparents, to empower new generations of Armenian scholars and university students.
Ansour also obtained other graduate degrees from the University of Cambridge and Harvard Law School, adding to the deep base of knowledge and expertise he shared as a mentor and host supervisor to participants of the AGBU Global Leadership Program (formerly called the New York Summer Internship Program) who received placements at the New York-based financial company March Partners LLC, a firm Ansour founded in 1992 and served as a Portfolio Manager until 2012.
“Michael Ansour was a brilliant mind who embodied the AGBU spirit of community service,” said AGBU President Sam Simonian, who served alongside Ansour on the Central Board. “His imprint will endure through the AGBU programs he supported throughout his purpose-filled life."
